People Prefer Perfect Smile Over Perfect Body

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry studied whether people would prefer having the perfect smile or the perfect body and the perfect smile won! No surprise for dentists – we’ve always known the power of a great smile.Rothfus Family Dental suggests tooth whitening for a younger appearance.

The Academy surveyed American adults and 80% of those surveyed said that they would be willing to spend money to fix a flaw due to aging. Of these respondents, 62% said they would choose to improve their teeth while 48% opted for putting their money toward weight loss. The study also showed that 54% of people older than 50 thought that a smile could help make you look younger but only 38% of those aged 18-29 believed this was so. Ah, the wisdom that comes with age!

When asked to list what could help defy the effects of aging about 45% named a healthy, vibrant smile. The second choice was a person’s eyes. The idea that body shape could define your age was only reported by 10% of people.

Smiles do change as we get older. The most common cosmetic dental treatment can make a smile look much more youthful – tooth whitening can take away the years of yellowing and discoloration that make our smile dingy. Not all tooth discolorations are corrected by whitening so make sure you talk to your dentist before attempting any bleaching procedure. The most effective and safe forms of tooth whitening are only available from your dentist.

Teeth may also become crowded as we age. Options for treating crowding or crooked teeth include braces (our new clear braces can straighten your teeth without dreaded metal-mouth) or dental veneers. Dental veneers not only give the appearance of perfect white teeth but can be used to correct misshapen or crooked teeth giving patients “instant orthodontics”.
